Patience is a Virtue

It has now been about 8 months since I submitted my Peace Corps application. Well, 7 months and 27 days.. not that I'm counting. I knew there would be a long and tedious waiting period after receiving my nomination, and even after getting medical clearance, but exactly how long and tedious I had no idea. The last contact I've had was a little over a month ago when the placement office in DC emailed me asking for an updated resume and transcript. I guess making sure I graduated college with the degrees I told them I had is sort of important. Anyway, that's been it. I was also recently made aware that they don't send invitations until 6 to 8 weeks before your departure date. I mean, I guess it makes sense, but silly me thought that since my medical packet was reviewed and cleared so quickly, that maybe my whole application would be reviewed quickly too. Oh well, it's back to the waiting game for me!

  2. They send invitations before the 6-8 week mark, thats just how much time they try to guarantee you will have before departure. Stay positive! And don't be afraid to shoot someone an email every now and then to check in (I usually worded it something like "I just wanted to make sure there was nothing else you needed from me" or something like that)...

  3. Maintain a Positive Mental Attitude, because things will work out. The waiting periods while not having any contact from PC are very trying to say the least.
As of today, I am exactly 6 weeks away from a Staging date for my nominated Region. I have read the postings of others who have already received an invitation for the same staging/date and I have read that some others have received invitations for stagings that are several months away.
    (Bureaucracies are amazing!)
Astronomerpc's advice regarding an occasional email to 'sty in touch' is good and you should feel comfortable doing that (I am going to do so later today).
    Good luck!
